Why would you ever buy store-bought caramel sauce when you can make your own. This recipe is simple and delicious. Make sure and add the sea salt as it gives it that added punch!
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
3 tablespoons water
½ cup whipping cream
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon sea salt
To make the caramel sauce, in a small sauce pot, pour the sugar in a single layer. Add the corn syrup and water on top. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat without stirring. Turn the heat down just a little but make sure it’s still boiling. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the caramel turns a light amber color, making sure to swirl the pan occasionally to color evenly.
Remove the caramel from the heat and carefully add the cream. This will boil up so only add a little at a time. Immediately stir until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract and the salt and mix well. Pour into a heatproof jar and allow to fully cool before putting in the refrigerator.
Makes about 1 ¼ cups
